Client Information

Client Policies

Clear, honest information about how we work, so you know what to expect before your first session. If anything here is unclear, just ask. We're happy to walk you through it.

01

Privacy & Confidentiality

What you share in therapy stays between you and your therapist. Your records are stored securely in Jane and handled in line with Ontario's Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and the standards of our regulatory colleges.

There are a few situations where the law requires us to share information, even without your consent:

  • If there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else
  • If we believe a child may be at risk of abuse or neglect
  • If records are ordered by a court
  • If required by our regulatory college

Whenever it's safe and possible, we'll talk with you first. Your therapist will go over confidentiality with you at your first session, and you're always welcome to ask questions about it.

02

Consent & Young People

Before we begin, we'll review consent with you so you understand how therapy works, what to expect, and your right to ask questions or stop at any time.

We work with children and youth. Where a parent or guardian's consent is needed, we'll ask for it. If parents are separated, we may ask for custody or decision-making documents before the first session.

03

Virtual Sessions

Virtual sessions take place on Jane's secure video platform. You'll get a link by email before your appointment.

  • Please join from a private space where you won't be overheard.
  • You'll need to be in Ontario at the time of your session.
  • If the connection drops, your therapist will try to reconnect or call you.

04

Communication Between Sessions

Email and phone are best used for scheduling and general questions. We aim to reply within 24 hours. Email isn't fully private, so please save personal or clinical details for your session.

05

Our Professional Standards

Our therapists are registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), and follow their codes of ethics and standards of practice. If you have a concern about your care, we encourage you to raise it with your therapist or with Jenny Jonker, our Clinical Director. You also have the right to contact the relevant college directly.
