Trauma therapy for teens and adults who are tired of having to explain themselves

In My Words

Wondering What Therapy with Me Is Like?

Why I Became a Therapist

I had a difficult childhood and saw a therapist when I was young. Having someone there who helped me through that time stayed with me. I remember thinking that someday, I wanted to be that person for someone else — especially kids and teens who needed someone in their corner.

What It's Like to Work with Me

My approach is eclectic, but always human-centred. I believe you are the expert on your own life. I'm not here to dictate how you should live or decide what should matter to you.

You drive the work. My role is to walk alongside you and bring in the tools that can help.

What to Expect in Your First Few Sessions

When it's helpful, I may share pieces of my own story and background. I know what it's like to sit on the other side of the room and talk about difficult things. Our experiences may be different, but I understand how vulnerable that can feel.

I only want my clients to feel two things: safety and trust.

My Métis identity is an important part of how I understand healing, relationships and community.

Throughout my career, I have worked extensively within Indigenous health and mental health, supporting individuals, families and communities navigating trauma, addictions, intergenerational experiences and complex systems.

My Métis identity and my connections with Indigenous communities have shaped the way I think about wellness. I don't see people or their experiences in isolation. Family, community, culture, identity, relationships and the systems around us can all influence what we carry and how we heal.

In my practice, I bring a culturally responsive, trauma-informed and anti-oppressive lens while recognizing that every person's relationship with culture and identity is different. I follow the client's lead and make space for what is meaningful to them.

Supporting Indigenous communities has been an important part of my social work career, and I remain committed to contributing to culturally safer services and meaningful Truth and Reconciliation through clinical work, education and community involvement.

How I Work

I Look at
the Systems
You've Been
Up Against

My work is systems-focused. We can't understand what someone is carrying without also looking at the systems, barriers, relationships and experiences that have shaped their life.

Your story doesn't exist in isolation from your culture, community or the world around you.

There's no single method here. You drive the session, and I draw on the approaches and tools that make sense for you.

About the Art

The artwork on this page is by Christi Belcourt, a Métis visual artist whose work celebrates the beauty, balance and interconnection of the natural world. The banner features Honouring the Spirit Helpers, and the painting behind me here is This Painting is a Mirror.

I’m grateful to share her work in this space. You can explore more of it at christibelcourt.com.

An Invitation from Alexa

Healing Belongs to You

Your healing doesn't belong to anyone else. You get to decide what you're ready for, what matters to you, and when change feels right.

What you're carrying may also be environmental, systemic, cultural or shaped by barriers that were never yours to create. Therapy isn't about pretending those things don't exist or treating them as a personal failing.

Some of the work may be setting boundaries, making difficult choices, understanding what's happened to you, or deciding what comes next.

Healing can be complicated. You don't have to figure it out alone.
